Pineapple Express

There are some movies that I personally like to categorize under Stoner/Drunk movies. This would definitely be one of them. The premise is great: two guys get high all the time when they really shouldn’t be and it digs a hole too big for them to simply climb out of. The movies starts great and is funny through the end. The only down side is that like many stoner movies, it begins to unexpectedly bend the rules of reality to the point where you begin asking yourself “oh, c’mon… really?!” Regardless the movie is a riot, James Franco performs the show of a lifetime and Arora wishes he were in it. Oh, and definitely be under some kind of influence when you see it.

Step Brothers

You got to see Will Ferrell’s ass in Old School, now you can see his balls! Step Brothers is extremely crude in both is action and its dialogue - thats what keeps this movie going! I personally feel this movie has a lot of potential that wasn’t used. But nonetheless it does have some ridiculously funny moments. I say this movie is rent worthy but if you’re going to see it in theater, have a couple of drinks first. It’ll make it that much funnier.

Batman: The Dark Knight

Jimmiti jillakers! Definitely the best movie of the summer - scratch that, best movie of the year. Very long but completely worth it. I wont go into detail because if you didn’t like the first one, you really shouldn’t be allowed to watch any movie every again. Batman himself is darker(no pun intended) and the Joker is pretty fuckin badass! The Dark Knight is just as good if not better, Heath Ledger will take the Oscar, and keep your eye out for subtle clues on the what the ending and the sequel will bring.

Wall-E

Extremely original, very creative, and unbelievably well made considering it probably has the least amount of dialogue I’ve ever listened to in a movie. The movie is rated G so expect wholesome and lovable. Wall-E really is an impressive movie in that it keeps you wanting to see what happens even when all you hear are sound effects. PIXAR knows how to capture the scene and with action alone and though I didn’t laugh aloud much, I wasn’t disappointed.

The Happening

I really, really wanted to believe Shyamalan would make his return debut to decency with this movie. But he didn’t. He really didn’t. The movie starts off in NYC and Philli (kinda his thing) and right off the bat starts off with the a young girl stabbing herself in the neck and construction workers plummeting to their deaths over steal rods - pretty sweet. But thats it… Other than the kick ass Mark Wahlberg it’s the suicide scenes that carry the movie along. The acting is as poor as a third world country and if I stick with that analogy, the story itself dies of starvation a long time ago. The ending is cheap. Shyamalan tried for a Twilight Zone style endings and he delivered just that! Only it wasn’t “Nightmare at 30,000 Feet,” rather one of those Christmas episodes that are meant to teach a lesson when realistically you watch to be freaked out, not preached to. I very disappointingly give this movie only two head. Save it for a good rainy day movie but don’t waste $10 on a ticket.

Wanted

This movie is awsome! By far one of the best action films I’ve seen in a long time. Director Timur Bekmambetov knows what he’s doing when tested using the Wachowski coined “bullet time.” The story is solid and though it is strongly similar to “The Matrix,” it gives you everything you could ask for in an action movie that bends the rules of reality. I’d say a 1up this movie has over “The Matrix” is the comedy. It makes you laugh just as much as it impresses you. Jolie plays her typical role of exotic badass with a secret tortured past while James McAvoy inherits the life all of us wish we could. To be perfectly honest, nothing new comes from this movie but if you’re not expecting that, overall money well spent. A lot of turns, a lot of surprises, and it never feels drawn out.

Get Smart

I won’t lie, I saw this movie because of how much I like the hit show “The Office”… and frankly, I more or less got the Michael Scott fix I needed! Carrell and Hathaway make a great team together. The movie goes a little over the top with its wacky antics, ie: how do you fall from a plane and land on a barn without a scratch. But that scene comes early in the movie which helps establish what kind of rules we’re dealing with. It’s nice to see Hathaway back in the mainstream and Dwayne Johnson’s acting gets better with every movie. It’s also pretty cool that he brought some of his wrestling buddies in with him. Even Bill Murray has a cameo! It is what it is, a family fun movie but childish jokes and cheap laughs. I will tell you they do steer clear from fart jokes. A good watch, maybe not worth a friday night but give it a matinee. Oh, and Hathaway never gets naked. I know, booooo!
